National Conference President Farooq Abdullah sharply criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his comments regarding ‘mangalsutra’, saying that they were aimed at targeting Muslims.

speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah vehemently rejected Modi’s suggestion that a Muslim would snatch the mangalsutra of Hindu women. “Our religion, Islam, teaches us to treat everyone equally. It does not advocate disrespect towards other religions,” he asserted.

Abdullah firmly stated, “It is inconceivable that a Muslim would snatch the mangalsutra of a Hindu mother or sister. Anyone doing so does not comprehend Islam.”

The NC leader rebuked Modi’s claims made during a rally in Rajasthan, where he insinuated that the Congress planned to distribute valuables, including mangalsutras, to specific groups. Abdullah refuted these allegations, stressing that “Islam does not condone disrespect towards any religion.”

Expressing doubt regarding the BJP’s ‘One Nation, One Election’ agenda, Abdullah questioned its feasibility given India’s diverse states. He also expressed concern over potential amendments to the constitution, questioning the BJP’s motives.

In conclusion, Abdullah cautioned political allies against supporting the BJP without considering its treatment of Muslims. He warned against alliances that could compromise the interests of minority communities.
