Protest demonstrations were held in Srinagar and Kulgam districts of occupied Jammu and Kashmir against the anti-people policies of the Modi-led Indian regime in the territory.

The Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M) held a protest rally in Kulgam district, while a protest demonstration was also held in Srinagar. The protesters said that people are grappling with severe hardships caused by erratic power cuts and unjustifiable hikes in power tariffs.

The party, under the leadership of Chairperson, District Development Council (DDC) Kulgam, Mohammad Afzal Parray, denounced the overall power scenario in Kashmir, especially in Kulgam.

Mohammad Afzal Parray said the region continues to suffer from power shortages, significantly impacting daily life and economic activities. “The Power Development Department is still adhering to a winter schedule, coupled with unscheduled power cuts, which has exacerbated the situation, leaving citizens frustrated and disillusioned,” he added.

The CPI-M activists also raised concerns over the plight of economically vulnerable individuals, who struggle to pay inflated electricity bills resulting from tariff hikes without adequate consultation or assessment of their financial capabilities. “The indiscriminate disconnection of power lines for non-payment further exacerbates the challenges faced by the populace,” they said.

The party leaders appealed to the authorities for urgent intervention to alleviate the suffering of the people of Kashmir and address the issues contributing to the power crisis.
