Illegally detained senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference and Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabbir Ahmad Shah has urged the Kashmiri people to observe complete shutdown, tomorrow, (Friday) to mark their protest against the posting of a blasphemous video about the Holy Prophet of Islam Muhammad (PBUH) by a non-Kashmiri student at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar.

Shabbir Ahmad Shah in his message from New Delhi’s Tihar jail, terming it as unacceptable, said that the Kashmiri Muslims would not allow anyone to mock their religion. “The blasphemous remarks, meant to provoke Muslims, will not be tolerated. The honour of the Holy Prophet is dearer to us than our lives”, he added.

Taking a serious note of the incident, he called for an independent probe to bring the real culprits to justice. He said that the educational institutions must be freed from such criminal-minded people, who were hell bent on turning colleges and universities into a battleground thereby nurturing hatred and sowing the seeds of discord.

He said that it was quite unfortunate that, on one hand, Kashmiri students were being arrested under so-called anti-terror laws for merely cheering a victorious team, while, on the other, non-Kashmiri students have been given a free hand to pursue their divisive and communal agenda.

Shabbir Shah also condemned the dismissal of Kashmiri government employees, illegal arrests of Kashmiri students under a draconian law and confiscation of public properties.
