In a bid to effect demographic change on a fast track, the Modi-led Indian regime has allocated Rs 36,000 crore for purchase of land in occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the name of industrial development. A total of more than Rs 54,000 crore has been stipulated for the purpose. “Jammu and Kashmir have received investment applications of more than Rs 54,000 crore under this scheme (Industrial Development Scheme) out of which projects worth more than Rs 36,000 crore have been allotted industrial land by the Government …”, Indian Minister of State Nityanand Rai stated in Parliament. He said a new scheme was notified on February 19, 2021, for the industrial development in Jammu & Kashmir with an outlay of Rs 28,400 crore. In his written response, the minister noted that the Modi Government had carried out several ‘purposeful initiatives to support development in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in light of the removal of Article 370. The scheme, acquiring local land in the name of Industrial development, will remain in force from the date of its notification till 2037. The ‘unutilized’ land after eviction from existing leaseholders will be allotted to unit holders under the new Industrial policy. “Government is having two-pronged strategies: on one hand new industrial estates are being established while on the other hand unutilized land in prime industrial estates is also being retrieved.” Over five lakh people would be brought from India to IIOJK in the name of employment. The entire exercise, as per experts’ is aimed at diluting the Muslim majority status of Jammu and Kashmir in the span of the next few years.
