Residents in Srinagar staged a protest demonstration against demolition notices, served to them by the occupation authorities, as part of the Modi regime’s ongoing drive to displace the locals on one pretext or another and to settle Indian citizens over there.

The protest was held in Zahid Pora area of Hawal in the city. The protesters said that they had been served notices by the authorities asking them to vacate their houses or face demolition.

Scores of residents appeared in the Press Enclave and raised slogans against the authorities for the brutal move.

Riyaz Ahmad, one of the protesters said that they had been living for the past 80 years and that the occupation authorities were resorting to excesses by ordering the demolition of their houses.

”Our ancestors have been living there and now we are being told to vacate, which is sheer injustice and uncalled for in any circumstances,” he said.

The protestors said that they had made their houses after getting loans but now the Commissioner has served with the notices telling them to demolish their houses. “We demand justice because it is sheer injustice to displace people from their houses,” they added.
